Qualifications for Newhall School District Governing Board
Michelle Kampbell brings a combination of public-sector experience, nonprofit leadership, community service, management experience, and a long-standing commitment to Newhall School District. Her background has centered on public service, responsible stewardship, collaboration, and helping communities navigate government and public institutions.
Newhall School District Experience
Measure E Citizens’ Oversight Committee — Served on the Newhall School District Measure E Oversight Committee from 2017–2020, helping provide independent community oversight of voter-approved school bond expenditures and supporting accountability for investments in local school facilities.
Newhall School District parent and community member — Michelle’s connection to the district is personal as well as civic. Her family chose the Newhall School District community for its schools, and she has remained engaged in the district as a parent and community advocate.
Public Service & Government Experience
California State Assembly, District 38 (now District 40) — Served as a Constituent Services Manager and Field Representative from 2019–2021. Represented the Assembly office at community and government events, served as a Latino advocacy liaison, and managed constituent cases during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Her legislative experience provided firsthand knowledge of how state government, public funding, legislation, constituent services, and local advocacy intersect — experience directly relevant to understanding the responsibilities of a public school board.
Nonprofit Leadership & Program Management
Statewide nonprofit leadership — Director of Programs, Training & Communications (2023–Present), responsible for the development and execution of a statewide leadership training program, including curriculum design, trainer coordination, logistics, and trainee mentorship.
Works collaboratively with elected officials, unions, community leaders, lobbyists, media, and strategic partners throughout California.
Oversees complex programs and communications, including budgeting, scheduling, event planning, digital engagement, website management, and coordination across multiple stakeholders.
Management & Organizational Experience
Founder and Principal Consultant, MiSol Strategies — Provides political, communications, and organizational consulting, including campaign planning, digital communications, marketing, and development support.
Previously served as Deputy Manager/Political Director for a congressional campaign, directing campaign operations, project management, scheduling, communications, and coordination among consultants, staff, and community stakeholders.
Prior private-sector general management experience included hiring, onboarding, supervising staff, and providing practical experience in personnel management and organizational accountability.
Education & Training
California State University, Northridge — Bachelor of Arts in Public Sector Management, graduated Cum Laude.
Santa Barbara City College — Associate degrees in Political Science and Liberal Studies.
MALDEF Internship, Washington, D.C. — Experience with a national civil-rights organization focused on advocacy, public policy, and community empowerment.
International Affairs Program — China, Korea, and Vietnam; also served as a middle school teacher in Shandong, China.
